We are incredibly grateful to our community partners @cafefika2021 at @livewell_kew, for hosting our Explore Barista training workshop last week, led by trainer, Timi ✨

Our participants were all able to have hands-on experience, learning barista skills and enjoying a delicious coffee as a result.

After a wonderful lunch, sponsored by @harringtondesignandbuild, at the community cafe in RACC, run by SEND students, we met with Lee (RACC) and Carmen (Richmond CVS) who both shared potential next steps - either in further study or volunteering.

On Friday we celebrated our first ever Summer BBQ Table of Hope! It was a wonderful gathering of over 100 guests in the grounds of Twickenham United Reformed Church. After lunch we enjoyed a special Summer Praise concert kindly hosted by the United Reformed Church and led by Rev Stephen. Thank you TURC For your incredible hospitality!

In the afternoon, we met the Kew Team at the @kewgardens Community Allotment for an introduction to gardening workshop.

Last week we celebrated our second week of our Summer Explore term by welcoming Frankie at our first workshop of the day, sharing on preparing for an interview and/or meeting. We learnt some wonderful techniques to present the best version of ourselves 🙌

After a delicious lunch catered by @harringtondesignbuild, we welcomed the @richmondfurniturescheme led by Simon and his team who guided us in a DIY workshop, where each of our participants was able to build a flower box to take home!

Last week we celebrated the start of our Summer Explore Term ☀️

We were joined by Laura from @relish.and.grace who shared on healthy eating on a budget and then ran a hands-on cooking workshop where we made cheese muffins and together, cooked a delicious roast vegetable couscous for lunch.

Mary then led us in a baking workshop - showing how easy it was to make a cake using only a cup as a measure!

Every participant was given a cook bag when they left - together with ingredients and recipe cards - so they could go home and recreate some of the day's dishes.

We asked our participants to share what they enjoyed most about the day:

Today we celebrate being awarded a grant from RM Partners (NW &SW London Cancer Alliance) and the @swlnhsn to help increase cancer awareness in our local community.

𝙎𝘼𝙑𝙀 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀: We will be hosting a special Tea Party at our Good Friday community space on Friday 27th September.

Our special tea party will be in support of people staying healthy and well - learning about spotting early signs of cancer and the important next steps.

We are delighted to be the recipients of this grant fund and look forward to sharing more details of our event, closer to the time.

Jamie, a former music student, experienced a signi

Jamie, a former music student, experienced a significant personal and social transformation through his involvement with Shepherd's Star.

As he participated in the Explore and Good Friday programs, Jamie discovered new interests and skills beyond music, including cooking.

His confidence levels soared, making him more comfortable in social settings and enabling him to interact with a diverse group of people. Jamie now regularly volunteers in the kitchen at our Good Friday community space, and has just recently signed up to @_cookingup_!

Explore really has led to more for Jamie - including opening up new possibilities for his future. ✨

Laura, who started working at the age of 15 and transitioned through various roles before facing redundancy in 2021, found a lifeline in Shepherd's Star during a period of personal uncertainty.

Participating in Explore, Laura gained confidence and overcame previous barriers by meeting new people and stepping out of her comfort zone.

Despite her initial anxiety, she found comfort and assurance in Shepherd's Star's supportive and nurturing environment.

Laura's journey from participation to volunteering illustrates the cycle of empowerment that Shepherd's Star encourages, transforming lives and enabling individuals like Laura to envision and work towards a brighter future.

Before joining Explore, Victoria felt isolated and lonely. As a single parent new to the area, navigating life's challenges felt overwhelming, especially amidst the isolation enforced by the pandemic. One of her greatest challenges was returning to work.

Victoria signed up to Explore to meet new people, develop new skills and rebuild her confidence. With the support of Explore and the Reed in Partnership Work Routes programme, Victoria is taking steps towards re-entering the workforce.

For Victoria, Explore has shown her she is not alone on her journey - it has given her the courage to believe in herself again, the strength and determination to pursue her dreams and the support and encouragement to take the next step.

We will be taking in collections on Friday 24th May at our Good Friday community space:

Last night one of our Shepherd's Star heroines was honoured at the @richmondcouncil #communityheroes Awards.

✨ We are so very proud of our wonderful volunteer Angie, who has served in our local community for many years. ✨

An outstanding volunteer Angie serves our guests at the weekly Twickenham community space, Good Friday. She bakes wonderful cupcakes to celebrate birthdays, cooks delicious sausage rolls for all our events, makes our sandwiches, tea, coffees - and always serves with a smile. She is a brilliant befriender, making conversation and connections over a cuppa - nothing is ever too much trouble for Angie - she goes above and beyond!

The Twickenham upon Thames Rotarians raise most of their funds through Christmas collections and plant sales made at The Rotary Fair on Twickenham Green.

This week we celebrate one of our Explore participants, Michael! ✨

Following on from our Explore programme, Michael was introduced to volunteering opportunities at @richmondfurniturescheme. He has enjoyed himself so much, he has now signed up to do regular shifts! We are so very proud of his progression.
